Ingres License
Ingres is the most mature enterprise, open source database solution available. With over 30 years of development behind it, the original open source RDBMS has been through an impressive customer maturation process.
On February 7, 2006, the Ingres 2006 database product was released by Ingres corporation under the GNU General Public License version 2 (GPL). This release marked an exciting milestone for Ingres Corporation and the open source community. By releasing under the GPL, the Ingres database product is now part of the most commonly used open source community and licensing scheme.
The overall benefit of Ingres 2006 is the deployment of a previously unseen combination of a maturity, security, and performance in an open source database. Working with partners and customers, Ingres is enabling the new business open source market to transparently extend the capabilities of enterprise-class databases. Additionally, Ingres is able to provide the benefit of indemnification against IP issues for those who choose to deploy the Ingres certified binaries.
While we are very excited about the benefits of open source, we also recognize that there are Ingres customers and partners who are using more traditional licensing schemes. In response to this market demand, Ingres also offers commercial licenses that allow you to deploy certified binaries from Ingres corporation that carry support, maintenance, intellectual property indemnification, and direct access to a strong global support and development team.
Our Trial Evaluation and Development license provides a limited use license for you to test and evaluate Ingres. It also gives you access and the option to bundle the Ingres client access libraries with your application. This license is available here on our Web site, and it’s free of charge.
Fully integrating Ingres into your appliance or application makes it simple and straightforward for your customers to install and use. It also makes it easier for you to support your product. To enable this type of bundling we have created a simple OEM agreement that doesn’t require you to open source your solution. Please contact sales@ingres.com for details.

How do you choose an appropriate license for your application?
If you wish to use certified binaries, receive IP indemnification while using Ingres 2006, or are a software developer whose software is proprietary in any way, then you should use the Ingres 2006 commercial license.
You can download a term-limited trial of our enterprise-class certified binaries by agreeing to the terms of the Trial Evaluation and Development License. This also allows distribution of Ingres Client Access Libraries.
If, however, you wish to receive support for your Ingres 2006 installation from the community and user forums or you are a software developer and your software is licensed under the GPL then you may use the GPL version of Ingres 2006.
